Coins & Premium

WELE has two things that are easy to mix up: coins — which you earn and spend while learning — and Premium — the paid plan that unlocks the smartest features. They're completely different, and this page lays out plainly where the line falls between them, and between free and paid.

Your plan management page

Coins: earning and spending

Your coin balance appears in the top corner. Coins are an "in-learning currency": you earn them by being active and spend them on one-off helpers during an exercise. Helpers are priced in coins on purpose — they shortcut the effort of doing it yourself, and that effort is what creates progress, so a little "friction cost" helps you use them only when you really need to.

  • Submit: +5 coins (submit and open a link) or +1 coin (submit with no link).
  • Show wrong hints: −2 coins.
  • View answer words: −5 coins.
  • Evaluate listening by AI: −5 coins.
  • Listen along on the results page: −2 coins.
  • Generate definition (for a single word): −1 coin.

What's included for free

It's important to say this plainly: the free version is NOT "dumbed down". You still get nearly the entire fair grading system and all the core pages.

  • Unlimited listening & dictation, in both hint and no-hint modes.
  • Fair grading at levels L0–L2 (accepts contractions/homophones/numbers/spelling variants; classifies the 7 error types with tips; reads stored AI adjudication results from the shared cache).
  • The full Result page, saving words to review, and basic review.
  • The Progress page (CEFR, sub-skills, coverage), Today, and Speaking.

What Premium adds

Premium doesn't "unlock correct grading" — the free version already has that. It adds personal EXPLANATIONS and personal OPTIMIZATION, things that take AI resources to generate just for you.

  • Coach (L3): a personal, warm explanation for each of your mistakes, worded to match your CEFR band.
  • Live AI adjudication (L2): instead of only reading stored results, Premium requests a ruling based on the context of your own exercise — and that result enriches the shared cache for everyone.
  • FSRS smart review scheduling: optimizes when you review so you remember longer with less effort.
  • Direct submission, with no ads and no links.

Did you know

  • Coins are NOT Premium: coins are an "in-learning currency" for buying one-off helpers, while Premium is a plan that unlocks the smart AI features — the two are independent of each other.
  • Coin-priced helpers (view answers, show wrong hints...) are priced on purpose to add a little friction: doing the work yourself is what makes you improve.
  • The free version still gets fair grading all the way up to level L2 — you don't get "dumbed-down" grading just because you haven't paid; Premium mainly adds personal explanations and optimized review timing.
