AI Agent (MCP)

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use other apps' tools. When you connect WELE via MCP, the assistant you're chatting with (Claude, ChatGPT, Codex…) can save words to your review queue, take you through your due reviews and start a speaking session built from your own dictation mistakes — without you ever leaving the chat. The assistant can only do what your account can do, and only after you agree to grant it access.

Connect in a minute

Open the AI Agent page (wele-learn.com/ai, or AI Agent in the sidebar) and copy the MCP server address. Each teaching language has its own address, so be sure to copy the address from the page of the site you're actually learning on.

The first time you connect, WELE opens a sign-in page and asks whether you agree to grant the assistant access. Click agree and you're done; from then on the assistant renews its session automatically.

  • Claude (web and Desktop): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste the address → Connect → sign in to WELE and agree.
  • ChatGPT: Settings → Security and login → turn on Developer mode → Plugins → the + button → paste the address → create the connection → sign in to WELE and agree.
  • Claude Code and Codex: add it from the command line — the command is ready to copy on the AI Agent page.

Using it on your phone

The Claude and ChatGPT phone apps share connections with your web account. Just add WELE once on claude.ai or chatgpt.com (on a computer or in your phone's browser), then open the app on your phone: WELE is already in your list of connections.

That way you can review while waiting for the bus, or save a phrase you just came across while reading the news, with a single message.

What the assistant can do for you

  • Keep: save a word, phrase or sentence with its meaning and the exact context where you found it; save several items at once; remove an item you saved by mistake.
  • Review: see what's due today, review items one by one and record how well you remembered, and check your study streak and how much is waiting.
  • Speaking: start a speaking session by topic, by a podcast you've finished, by individual IELTS Speaking part or as a mock test; save the feedback to WELE so you can read and replay it; look back at the original sentence, what you transcribed and what type of mistake it was.
  • Progress: ask "how did I do this week?" to get a summary from your real learning data.

Speaking practice with an AI Agent

ChatGPT and Claude can now talk by voice. Connected to WELE, your assistant becomes a speaking partner: WELE tells it how to structure the session, how to ask questions, how to correct mistakes and which scoring scale to use; the assistant runs the session, scores it and saves the feedback to WELE.

Turn on voice mode and say what you want to practice, for example "Practice IELTS Speaking Part 2 with WELE" or "Practice speaking with WELE about job interviews". The assistant calls WELE to get the prompt, the questioning approach and the scoring scale, and starts right away.

Talk as you would in a real session. The session ends on its own once the planned part is done, or any time you say "stop" or "score it". The assistant gives a short spoken summary.

Say "save the results to WELE": the assistant scores and saves the feedback right in voice mode, so you don't need to switch back and forth between text and voice. If a session hasn't been saved, it shows as "not completed" and can still be saved later.

  • By topic: you pick a topic (describing a trip, a job interview…), the assistant gives you a task, corrects 1–2 important mistakes and has you say it again more concisely.
  • By a podcast you've listened to: the session is built from that episode and the words you got wrong in it.
  • IELTS Part 1, Part 2, Part 3: practice each part exactly as in the exam, with corrections along the way.
  • IELTS Speaking mock test: all three parts as in the exam room, with no feedback until the end.
  • Basics for beginners: from zero — a few greetings, introducing yourself, ordering food… along with how to read the letters and pronounce them; listen, repeat, then a short role-play.
  • Works with every language WELE teaches: the session runs in the language of the site you're learning on, and explanations are in your interface language. IELTS is only available on the English site.

Speaking results: scoring, reviewing and replaying

Each session is scored on 4 criteria: Fluency & Coherence, Vocabulary, Grammar and Pronunciation. English uses the IELTS band scale; other languages and basics sessions use CEFR levels (A1, A2, B1…). The scorer is your AI assistant, not WELE; WELE saves exactly what the assistant said, along with what the assistant based it on and how confident it was.

A band always comes with its scope: "band for this session", "band for Part 2" or "estimated band for the whole test". Only a full three-part mock test can estimate a whole-test band. If you said too little to score, the session is still saved along with the reason.

Review every session under Speaking → AI speaking history (/speaking/sessions): feedback on each criterion, "You said → Better to say", words to use and model answers. Click the speaker button to have WELE read the corrected sentence and the model answer aloud; basics sessions also have a slow-playback button.

Think a result is wrong? Click "Ask AI to review the result" to copy a message, paste it into ChatGPT or Claude and say what you'd like looked at again. The assistant can update the feedback; WELE keeps a history of every update along with the reason.

Requires Premium

Free accounts can still sign in and connect normally, but after that the tools will decline: review is a Premium feature, and so is using WELE through an AI assistant. See Coins & Premium for details.

For teachers and organizations

Owners, admins and teachers of an organization on WELE have a separate admin connection: https://portal.wele-learn.com/mcp/admin. Through it, the assistant helps you create podcasts, courses, classes and assignments, read learning reports and manage members — with exactly the permissions you have in your organization's portal, nothing more.

The admin connection is being rolled out organization by organization. If the consent page says you don't have permission to connect yet, contact WELE to have it turned on for your organization.

  • Before any delete, removal or major change, the assistant asks you again, and it only runs once you confirm.
  • The assistant only sees organizations you're a member of; teachers can't manage members or organization settings.

Safety & privacy

  • WELE never gives your password to the assistant: you sign in on WELE's own page, and the assistant only receives a time-limited access key.
  • To stop, remove the WELE connection under Connectors/Plugins in your assistant; the old access key expires within a few minutes.
  • Only connect apps you trust: the consent page always shows the app's name and the address it will return to.

Did you know

  • Reviews through the assistant don't read out the answers in advance: the assistant only says how many items are due today and what kinds, then asks them one at a time — because naming the items up front would give away the answers.
  • Podcast-based speaking sessions are built from your own dictation mistakes in the episode you just listened to, so the assistant will decline if you haven't finished that episode — instead of inventing a session that has nothing to do with you.
  • During a session, the assistant scores only once, at the end, and it scores your first attempt — before any help — because scoring after corrections would only measure the help.
  • Words you save through the assistant go into the same review queue as words saved on the web, so your spaced-repetition schedule is shared across everywhere you learn.
